Decor Rest vs Ashley Furniture

Where is it made?

Décor Rest is made in Canada.

Ashley is made in the US and in Vietnam.

Frame Construction

Décor Rest uses more hardwood in their frame construction than any other manufacturer of furniture. They glue their joints and wrap their edges with foam so you do not feel a hard edge. This also helps the fabric to wear better. Décor Rest frames are meant to last a life time.

Ashley’s frames are well engineered, however, they are made cheaply. Ashley’s frames are meant to last 10 years.

Seat Cushion

Décor Rest uses a 1.9 lb. density foam in their seat cushions. Most of their furniture is offered in standard or firm seating. Décor Rest Warranties their seat cushions for 5 years. All of Décor Rest seat cushions are flippable, which mean you can get twice the life out of your cushion casings.

Ashley cushions are made with 1.8 lb. density foam. Ashley only warranties their seat cushions for 1 year. Most of Ashley's cushions are not flippable, however Ashley will sell you a new seat casing for a very reasonable amount of money.

Back Cushion

Décor Rest uses a premium stuffing for their back cushion. In addition their back cushion are split bagged which prevent the stuffing from shifting and making the cushion look saggy.

Ashley uses cheap stuffing which doesn’t retain it’s shape as well. It visually doesn’t look as nice. In addition, they do not bag their back cushion so the stuffing settles to the bottom of the cushion.

Arm construction

Décor Rest makes their arm strong enough to stand on. Décor Rest uses a lot more foam in their arm which means it will stay soft for many years.

Ashley arms are not as strong as Decor Rest, however, they are well engineered. Ashley uses a cheaper fiber on their arm that will break down quicker than foam.

Legs

All of Décor Rest legs are made of wood and they offer them in a range of colours.

A lot of Ashley’s furniture is made with plastic legs.

Seat Decking

Décor Rest decking is fully upholstered. It looks nice and helps the cushion from sliding forward.

Ashley uses a cheap non woven fabric on their seat deck. It helps to keep the cost down and works ok.

Attention to Detail

Décor is like a well tailored suit. The seams are straight. The tailoring is impeccable. The pleats are perfect. The back panel is taut and does not sag. The back cushions are perfectly formed.

Ashley furniture is a like a suit you buy off the rack. Everything is ok but it does not look impeccable.
