Kim ★★★★★

We purchased the 2696 sectional from Parks. We were looking to buy a new sectional, but as soon as we saw this one, we knew we had to have it! We went with the Kayla ivory fabric and it looks great in our living room. I’m almost afraid to sit on it! We were able to pick a fabric that went with our decor, although it was pretty hard to choose from all the swatches. I also like that it’s made in Canada.

We are repeat Parks Furniture customers and have always had a good experience there. Claire was very helpful, answered all our questions and explained the different fabric options. She even tried to warn us about buying a white sectional!

The building is huge, so give yourself some time to look around. Our sectional was delayed because the fabric was out of stock, but Parks kept us updated. When it finally arrived, the delivery guys were fantastic. They put it where we wanted it and took away all the garbage. We thought about picking it up ourselves, but the $99 delivery fee was well worth it. Highly recommend Decor-Rest!

Decor-Rest vs. Ashley Furniture Comparison

Here is the direct, point-by-point comparison aligning each feature of the Decor-Rest construction specification with its Ashley Furniture counterpart:

Inside Back: Decor Rest uses channeled bags filled with virgin dacron fiber (which is vastly superior to recycled dacron). The channeling prevents the dacron from settling over time. Ashley Furniture does not bag their fibers and uses recycled dacron; while it is good that they use recycled material, the sofa tends to look tired in less than a year.

Stabilizer Bars: Decor Rest incorporates warpfree stabilizer bars. Ashley Furniture is not made to the same standard, though we have not seen many problems with their support system.

Sinuous Spring Backs: Decor Rest backs are sprung with 12 gauge nosag sinuous spring construction, helping the sofa retain its original look longer. Ashley Furniture uses a webbing support that does not spring back; this webbing contributes to the tired, sagging look after only a short period of time.

Hardwood Frames: Decor Rest frames are engineered from select air or kilndried North American maple or birch, featuring doubledoweled, cornerblocked, glued, and screwsecured corners plus extra center legs. Ashley Furniture frames are typically built from mostly oriented strand board (OSB), and plywood, assembled with staples, little if any glue, and interlocking wood blocks. This is why Ashley sofas tend to squeak over time and lack durability—you can never stand on an Ashley armrest.

Sinuous Spring Seating: Decor Rest seating uses 8 gauge nosag sinuous springs (5 per seat plus an extra one next to the arm) attached with polyresin clips to prevent squeaking. Ashley Furniture utilizes a trampolinestyle decking that does not stand up over time, causing your seating to begin to sag.

Environmental Green Soya Foam: Decor Rest incorporates ecofriendly soyabased 1.9 lb density foam manufactured without CFCs (Which is good for the environment). Ashley Furniture utilizes standard polyurethane 1.8 lb density foam cores wrapped in polyester fiber batting. Decor Rest cushions are warrantied for 5 years, whereas Ashley only warranties their cushions for 1 year.

Added Value (Edge Roll): Decor Rest includes a large deluxe edge roll to securely hold seat cushions in place. Ashley Furniture relies on the baseline fit of the cushion platform without a dedicated heavyduty edge roll, though I haven't noticed a massive practical difference between the two for holding cushions in place.

Legs: Decor Rest uses 100% solid wood legs with multiple color options. Ashley Furniture frequently uses plastic legs. It is nice to be able to choose the leg colors on Decor Rest; the plastic legs on Ashley look cheap, though I am not sure if anyone else notices.

Decks: Decor Rest features fully covered decks upholstered in the main body fabric and padded for extra detail. Ashley Furniture decks are only covered with 4 to 5 inches of primary fabric before switching to a cheap secondary fabric for the rest of the decking. It's a nice touch by Decor Rest, though I am not sure how important this feature truly is.

Accent Pillows: Decor Rest features zippered pillows with Feather Blend or Leather Blend filling variations and unique channeling on larger pillows to prevent shifting. In contrast, Ashley Furniture uses recycled dacron. You wouldn't think it would make a huge difference, but the Decor Rest pillows definitely feel nicer.

Arms: Decor Rest fully pads its arms with higher quality foam. Ashley uses a cheaper quality foam on their arms, and over time you definitely notice the difference when you rest your arm on the armrest.

Fabric and Workmanship: Decor Rest simply makes a better sofa. I always say that buying Decor Rest is like buying a tailormade suit, whereas buying Ashley is like buying an offtherack suit from Walmart.

Zippers: Decor Rest includes zippers on all toss cushions, inside backs, and seats, complete with a "home pocket" on seat cushions to hide zipper tags. Ashley Furniture features zippers selectively on certain performance lines or removable covers, rarely incorporating dedicated home pockets for zipper pulls. While having a home pocket isn't a massive deal, it is a nice touch.

Manufacturing Origin: Decor Rest is made in Canada, although some components are sourced overseas. Ashley Furniture is made in the USA and Vietnam with parts sourced overseas.

Leather: Decor Rest uses 100% topgrain leather everywhere. Ashley uses faux leather on the sides and back. Decor Rest warranties their leather for 2 years, while Ashley only warranties theirs for 1 year.

Warranty: Decor Rest warranties frames and springs for life, and they are built to last. As mentioned previously, Ashley frames are stapled rather than glued, and over time their frames will start to make noise, while their trampoline decking fails to hold up. On the positive side, Ashley is fantastic at providing replacement parts with no questions asked, so if you want to restuff a back pillow yourself, you can make them look good as new.

Price & Value: Decor Rest is normally about 50% more expensive than an Ashley sofa—whether it is worth it is up to you to decide. I often say that if you have young kids and don't want to spend a lot of money, Ashley is a great choice. If your kids are older and you want a longterm piece, Decor Rest is a worthwhile investment.
